We were told to use Catawba Home Inspections when we were going through the home buying process from Howard Hanna Real Estate. Being young, naive, first time home buyers, we unfortunately took that advice. We were not informed of a major structural foundation issue surrounding the entirety of our basement. In fact we were told something along the lines of “Your foundation is about twice as thick as a normal foundation and you shouldn’t be worried about going anywhere”. We recently had a basement inspector come out to our home and he was absolutely appalled by the sight of our foundation, even saying he was confused how our home passed the inspection and how the bank gave us a loan. After reaching out about this issue and lack of transparency in our home inspection to Catawba, we were sent a letter from their attorney trying to use scare tactics and big words to convince us we wouldn’t have any basis to receive any sort of compensation based on their negligence. No apology, just rude, disrespectful, and most of all arrogant. Unless you want to spend $30,000 to get your foundation structurally “sound” so that it won’t cave in, do not go with Catawba Home Inspections when buying a house.Posted on GoogleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would give no stars if I could! A neighbor of mine recently purchased a home and used Catawba Island Home Inspectors for the inspection, and it’s been a costly mistake. Within 6 months of closing, they were informed of a significant structural issue that was not identified or mentioned anywhere in the inspection report. This was not a minor cosmetic oversight, this was a major issue that should have been caught. Per their contract, they requested a refund of the inspection fee. That is it. No additional compensation, just the basic refund outlined in the agreement. Instead of taking accountability or even attempting to resolve the concern, the company responded through an attorney, denying responsibility and claiming this is a “common consequence of home ownership.” That response is not only dismissive, it feels like an attempt to intimidate rather than address a legitimate concern. Home inspections are meant to protect buyers from exactly this type of situation. When a major issue surfaces almost immediately after purchase and the company refuses even the minimal remedy outlined in their own contract, it raises serious concerns about both the quality of the inspection and their customer service. When a company will not stand behind its own work or its own contract, that raises serious questions about its integrity!! We used their services less than 6 months ago when we were in the processing of purchasing our home, now we have a serious foundation issue. This would have been visible during the inspection, yet they dismissed it as a “normal drywall issue.” Just a few months after moving in, our insurance agent saw the cracks and told us we needed to have it looked at immediately. When we brought in a professional, we were told the foundation was failing and that there is plenty of visible, uncovered evidence in our crawl space that suggests this has been an issue for years. Our report mentioned nothing - just checked boxes. After we emailed the company with our concerns, they did not call us or even send a follow-up email. Instead, they immediately turned it over to a lawyer. The only response we received was a letter that suggests that our house is old and that it was not their fault that they misrepresented a major structural problem. This kind of response says everything you need to know about how they handle their business.
